Kanwariya Tragedy: 5 Pilgrims Die in UP Road Accidents

On Monday, August 10, 2026, Uttar Pradesh witnessed a series of tragic road accidents that claimed the lives of five devotees and injured 41 others. These incidents primarily involved pilgrims and Kanwariyas traveling to religious destinations during the Shravan month.

In Kaushambi, a pickup vehicle carrying 36 devotees overturned on National Highway-19 near Kasia village, resulting in one death and 30 injuries. The pilgrims were headed to Kada for a holy dip. The accident occurred due to the driver losing control while attempting to overtake a bus on an overloaded, speeding vehicle.

Further tragedies unfolded in Barabanki and Kasganj. In Barabanki, two devotees died and one was injured when a tractor-trolley collided with their motorcycle near Dadanpur village on Sunday night, August 9, 2026. The victims were en route to the Lodheswar Mahadeva temple. In Kasganj, two Kanwariyas were killed and another injured when their motorcycle crashed into a car near the Kali River bridge while traveling to Soron.

Additional accidents were reported in Pratapgarh, where six Kanwariyas were injured when their pickup vehicle overturned near a petrol pump in Dabhiar. In Maharajganj, three devotees sustained injuries after a tractor-trolley carrying approximately 35 people fell into a roadside canal near Padri Kala village, while returning from the Itahiya Shiva temple.
