Four passengers lost their lives and four sustained injuries in a severe bus accident on the Gorakhpur Link Expressway in Ambedkar Nagar district. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. on Friday when an AC bus, reportedly traveling at approximately 100 kmph, collided with a trailer truck.
Preliminary investigations suggest the bus driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the catastrophic collision. The impact ripped open the left side of the bus, trapping many of the approximately 50 passengers who were mostly asleep. Rescue efforts involved cutting through the vehicle to free trapped individuals.
The injured were transported to nearby hospitals, with at least four in serious condition. The bus driver, conductor, and trailer driver fled the scene and are being sought by authorities. The bus was identified as belonging to Tighra Express Travels, and most passengers were from Bihar, the same state the trailer was headed to from Rajasthan.
Investigators are examining the damaged vehicles and collecting statements to determine the exact cause, focusing on the suspected driver drowsiness and the vehicle's speed. This incident underscores the dangers of high-speed, long-distance travel, particularly in the early morning hours.
