The Motor Accident Claim Tribunal in Panchkula has ordered a compensation of ₹30,01,238 to Raj Pal, a 24-year-old who survived a severe road accident. This award, carrying an annual interest of 7.5%, is to be paid from March 2021 until its full realization. The incident happened on September 21, 2020, when a speeding truck, allegedly driven on the wrong side, collided with Raj Pal and his friend.
The accident inflicted catastrophic injuries on Raj Pal, including a severe open fracture of his right femur, a fractured hip socket, and extensive damage to his left lower limb and right thigh. Despite nearly two months of hospitalization, he was left with a permanent disability, impacting his livelihood as a labourer and making him dependent on his parents.
While an FIR was registered, the truck driver and owner proceeded ex-parte. The insurance company denied coverage, but the tribunal ultimately ruled the driver and owner jointly and severally responsible for the substantial compensation awarded to the victim.
