A devastating soil mound collapse in Kirwani village, Sonbhadra district, claimed the lives of three women and left two injured on Monday. The incident occurred as a group of women from a nearby village were gathering clay to prepare their mud houses for the upcoming Holi festival.
While digging near a mound in the forest, the soil suddenly gave way, tragically burying five women. Prompt action by villagers alerted the police, and rescue teams, alongside local residents, worked to extricate the victims.
Authorities transported the women to the Myorpur Community Health Centre, where three were pronounced dead. The deceased have been identified as Sadikunnisha, 30, Anisha Khatoon, 20, and Sita Kunwar, 28. Senior officials, including the Superintendent of Police, visited the scene.
Following the incident, officials from the forest and land revenue departments were tasked with examining the area where villagers collect mud. The objective is to implement necessary precautions to avert similar future calamities.
