A horrific skiing accident at Welch Village in southern Minnesota tragically claimed the life of 25-year-old Walker Phenix Nelson on the evening of February 1st. Nelson was skiing when he collided with a chairlift tower, an impact that proved fatal.
Bystanders witnessed the incident and immediately administered CPR while awaiting emergency medical services. Despite their efforts and the prompt arrival of the Red Wing Fire Department and EMTs, Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:15 p.m.
Welch Village resort president Peter Zotalis shared the establishment's heartbreak over the fatality, offering profound sympathy to the skier's family and friends. He also acknowledged the quick response from the ski patrol, mountain staff, and emergency personnel.
