Tragedy struck off the coast of South Korea on Thursday when a fire erupted aboard an oil products tanker. The incident resulted in the deaths of two crew members who were discovered in the engine room.
The 7,333-ton vessel was carrying a total of 18 crew, including seven foreign nationals. Fortunately, the South Korean Coast Guard successfully rescued the remaining 16 individuals aboard.
The fire, which broke out in waters off Incheon, was successfully extinguished around 4 a.m. on Friday. Authorities are investigating the cause, with early indications suggesting the engine room as the origin of the blaze. Crucially, the fire did not spread to the vessel's oil cargo tanks.
