A boating accident on Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, led to the tragic death of Evan Greenleigh, a 19-year-old cadet from The Citadel. The incident took place on a Saturday evening, April 25th, when the boat carrying seven people collided with a dock. Greenleigh was pronounced dead at the scene due to blunt force injuries, as confirmed by the Charleston County Coroner. Six other individuals on board, including the boat operator, were taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Greenleigh was a member of The Citadel's Corps of Cadets Class of 2029, hailing from Maryland. He was described by Citadel President Gen. Glenn M. Walters as an "exceptional Classmate and Teammate." The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources has initiated an investigation into the cause of the fatal collision. The circumstances of whether any passengers entered the water after the impact remain unclear.
