18 Injured as Mobile Lounge Crashes into Dock at Dulles Airport

Last month, on November 10, 2025, a dramatic incident occurred at Washington Dulles International Airport when a mobile lounge crashed into a dock. The vehicle, which is used to transport passengers between terminals and concourses, struck the dock around 4:30 pm, according to multiple news reports.

As a result of the collision, 18 passengers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The passengers were able to exit the mobile lounge using the stairs, and the airport authority confirmed that the airport remained open and operating as usual following the incident.

The terminal at Dulles Airport also suffered some damage due to the crash, though the extent of the damage was not immediately clear. The mobile lounges have been in use at the airport since 1959, and they can reportedly carry up to 102 passengers at a time, with 71 of them seated.

This incident has once again highlighted the ongoing issues with the aging infrastructure at Dulles Airport. Earlier this week, a former Trump administration official nominated to the board of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) described the mobile lounges as a "relic of the past" and an "embarrassment" for international travelers.
