On Friday evening, a tragic incident occurred in Kanpur, India, where two young boys drowned in the Ganga River at Siddhnath Ghat. The victims, Suraj Yadav (15) and Raunak (17), had gone to the river with two friends, Raj (13) and Shubham (14), to visit the nearby Siddhanath Temple.
After arriving at the ghat, the boys decided to go for a swim in the Ganga. However, due to the slippery banks, they drifted about 300 meters away from the shore. Raunak began to drown in the deeper waters, and Suraj tried to save him, but both ended up drowning.
Raj and Shubham managed to return to the shore but did not inform anyone out of fear. It was only later that night when Suraj's family realized he had not returned home that the search for the missing boys began. Raunak's family also joined the search after being informed.
The police immediately launched a rescue operation, deploying divers and a steamer to search for the boys. However, despite their efforts, there has been no trace of the victims so far. The search operation continued throughout the day, but it was eventually called off as darkness fell. The police have stationed officers with steamers along the river, hoping to retrieve the bodies if they surface.
Suraj and Raj worked at a snack shop, while Raunak was a class VIII student and the only son in his family. The authorities have expressed their condolences and stated that the search for the two missing boys will resume on Sunday morning.
