6 Aug
Summary
- 24 friends from 1990 school batch stranded in Uttarakhand
- Cloudburst and heavy rainfall hit Uttarkashi region
- Families unable to reach group since Monday evening

On August 7, 2025, a group of 24 friends from the 1990 school batch of a village in Maharashtra's Manchar region found themselves stranded in Uttarakhand after a devastating cloudburst struck the Uttarkashi district. The friends, many of whom now live in cities like Mumbai, had reunited for the first time in 35 years to embark on the 'Char Dham Yatra' pilgrimage on August 1.
The group was last in contact with their families around 7 PM on Monday, when they were about 10 kilometers from Gangotri, stuck due to fallen trees and minor landslides. Since then, their phones have been unreachable, leaving their loved ones increasingly worried as videos of the cloudburst circulated on social media.
Authorities have confirmed that at least 149 tourists from Maharashtra were stranded in Uttarakhand due to the extreme weather conditions. While some have been safely located, the group from Awasari Khurd remains unaccounted for, with the state disaster management department working to establish contact and ensure their safe return to Maharashtra.
