On Tuesday, September 5th, 2025, M. Nandakumar, a highly respected former Thiruvananthapuram Collector and Director of Public Relations, passed away at the age of 69. Nandakumar, who hailed from Ernakulam, had been receiving treatment at a private hospital for the past four months following a brain surgery.
Nandakumar was a distinguished civil servant who had a diverse career. He studied life sciences and journalism, and also obtained a law degree. He began his career as a sub-editor trainee before entering government service and being conferred the prestigious IAS title in 1993. Over the years, he served in various roles, including as the Thiruvananthapuram Collector, Director of Collegiate Education, Kudumbashree Director, Civil Supplies Director, and Land Use Commissioner.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Nandakumar was also known as an accomplished orator and writer, with a keen interest in astrology and numerology. He is survived by his wife, N.S. Sreelatha, and their two children, Vishnu and Parvathy.

The public will have the opportunity to pay their last respects to Nandakumar at the University Women's Association Hall in Jawahar Nagar on Wednesday, September 6th, from 8 a.m. onwards. His cremation is scheduled to take place at Santhikavadam, Thycaud, at 4:30 p.m. the same day.
