On the evening of September 6, 2025, a rapidly spreading brush fire erupted in Jurupa Valley, California. The Pyrite Fire, as it has been named, ignited around 5:20 PM near Pyrite Street and Granite Hills Drive. By 6:45 PM, the blaze had grown to 140 acres, and by 8 PM it had reached 200 acres in size.
As the fire continued to grow, evacuation orders were issued for several zones in Jurupa Valley, including JUR0017, JUR-0018, JUR-0019, and JUR0031. An evacuation warning was also issued for zones JUR-0034, JUR-0020, and JUR-0036. An emergency shelter was opened at Jurupa Valley High School to accommodate displaced residents, and an animal shelter was made available at 6851 Van Buren Boulevard.
By 11:30 PM, the Pyrite Fire had scorched 400 acres and was 5% contained. Firefighters from multiple agencies responded to the scene, battling the blaze from the ground and air with the help of helicopters and water tankers. The crews are expected to remain on the scene throughout the night as they work to bring the fire under control.
