Summary
- Wildfire in Annapolis County, Nova Scotia has grown to 1,977 hectares

- Evacuations ordered as fire approaches homes near West Dalhousie Road
As of August 18th, 2025, a raging wildfire in Annapolis County, Nova Scotia has grown to an estimated 1,977 hectares and remains out of control. The Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reports that the fire has advanced past Godfrey Lake and is now approaching the intersection of Fairns and West Dalhousie roads, where a number of homes have been evacuated.
A large ground force of over 200 firefighters, including 77 from the DNR, 120 local firefighters, and crews from Ontario and Prince Edward Island, are working tirelessly to save the threatened homes. Two contracted helicopters are also dropping water on the blaze. As of Sunday evening, there have been no reports of any structures being damaged.
The weather conditions have not been favorable, with low humidity, strong winds, and warm temperatures fueling the fire's rapid spread. The DNR's director for fleet and forest protection, Jim Rudderham, stated that these conditions are "everything we don't need for helping us put out fires."
Despite the challenges, the firefighters' morale remains a mix of "happiness and sadness" as they continue their "hot, tiring, hard work." The department says the crews are proud to be doing what needs to be done to protect the community.
