On July 28th, 2025, a video of a peculiar incident in Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya district went viral on social media. According to the report, a monkey had managed to open the storage compartment of a moped and steal a bag containing $1,000 in cash. The primate then climbed a nearby tree and began tearing and tossing the currency, creating a "rain of money" that sent bystanders scrambling to collect the falling notes.
The owner of the money, Rohitash Chandra, had come to the area with his son Anuj Kumar for a land registration. They had kept the $1,000 in the moped's trunk. While Rohitash was busy with paperwork, the opportunistic monkey seized the chance to make off with the cash.
By the time the chaos subsided, Rohitash was able to recover only $650 of the stolen money. The remaining $350 was either snatched by people present at the scene or torn apart by the mischievous monkey. Locals in the Bidhuna tehsil area say such monkey-related incidents have long been a problem, with the primates frequently attacking or snatching items from residents.
