Fire Chief Nate Stoermer expressed discomfort with not having a second apparatus available and located a compatible used emergency pumper with 10 years of service life remaining.
In addition to the used truck purchase, the GFD has also been granted permission to spend $72,366.25 to upgrade the department's mobile radios. This upgrade is being mandated by the State of Indiana, though no specific deadline has been set. Chief Stoermer stated that the department has been anticipating this upgrade for a few years and wants to be prepared.
The Greensburg Board of Works unanimously approved both the used truck purchase, not to exceed $130,000, and the radio upgrade expenditure. These acquisitions will ensure the GFD maintains the necessary equipment and communications capabilities to effectively serve the community.
