Flood Chaos Hits Khargone as Bodies Recovered from Raging Waters

As of August 18, 2025, the Khargone district in central India has been grappling with the aftermath of severe monsoon floods. In a tragic incident, the body of a man who was swept away while crossing a flooded culvert in the Jhirnia police station area was recovered on Monday. The victim, identified as Kalu Pehlwan, was attempting to cross the bridge over the Ruparel river when he was caught in the strong currents. Despite efforts by bystanders to pull him out, he was ultimately swept away and his body was found 8 kilometers downstream.
In a separate incident, the body of a 15-year-old boy from Maharashtra, Manoj Wadile, was also recovered on Monday. Manoj had come to the holy town of Maheshwar with some friends and despite warnings, had ventured into the deep waters of the Narmada river at the Maheshwar Ghat. Manoj drowned, but his friend Pratik was saved by a local diver.
The heavy rains have also caused significant damage in the Bhagwanpura area of Khargone, where floodwaters have inundated most of the houses in the Peepal Jhopa village. The Kunda river has also overflowed, further exacerbating the situation. Authorities reported that the Bhagwanpura area received 72 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, leading to the widespread flooding.
