Five Rescued from Fiery Blaze at Ilford Restaurant

On the evening of August 18th, 2025, a fire erupted at a restaurant in Ilford, East London, leading to a dramatic rescue effort by emergency services. According to reports, the blaze broke out around 9 PM on Woodford Avenue in the Gants Hill area.
Firefighters from the London Fire Brigade were quickly dispatched to the scene, along with police and paramedics. Part of the ground floor of the restaurant was damaged by the flames, and firefighters were able to rescue five people trapped inside. Two of the victims were taken to a major trauma center, while the other three were transported to local hospitals for treatment of burns and smoke inhalation.
In total, nine other people were able to evacuate the restaurant before the firefighters arrived. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation by both the fire brigade and the Metropolitan Police.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting, who represents the Ilford North constituency, praised the swift response of the emergency services and urged residents to avoid the area for the time being as the investigation continues.
