Dramatic Overnight Rescue Saves Students from Flooded School

On August 27, 2025, heavy rains and rising floodwaters in Punjab, India, led to a dramatic rescue operation at a local school. As the water level rose, the students were forced to move to the second floor of the school building. Worried parents raised the alarm, and the school principal sent an urgent message for assistance.
District administration teams, supported by the Border Security Force (BSF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and humanitarian organization Khalsa Aid, worked through the night to evacuate the students and school staff. Local farmers also rushed to the school on tractor-trailers to help with the rescue efforts.
The district administration has now issued a show-cause notice to the school principal for failing to send the students home despite the state government declaring holidays in all schools. Authorities have also reported several breaches in the dhussi bundh embankments, leading to the inundation of surrounding villages, including the area of the Kartarpur corridor.
The situation remains challenging, with the district administration complex in Pathankot also submerged and rescue teams called in to evacuate the staff. However, the water level of the Ravi River has started to recede, and the authorities are hopeful that the conditions will improve in the coming days.
