Devoted Father Killed in Freak Tree Accident in Delhi

On the morning of July 15th, 2025, a tragic accident occurred in Delhi's Kalkaji area that claimed the life of Sudhir Kumar (52) and left his daughter Priya (22) injured. Sudhir was on his way to drop Priya off at work when an old roadside neem tree suddenly fell, crushing them both.

Priya sustained a hip fracture and was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital's Emergency Ward, where she remains under treatment. Her mother, Sunita Devi (48), is devastated by the loss of her husband, who was the family's sole breadwinner. Sunita now faces the daunting task of caring for their three children - Priya, her elder sister Shivani (27), and younger brother Mayank (18) - alone.

The incident occurred around 9:50 am, and local police responded swiftly, initiating rescue operations with the support of the area's ACP and Traffic Inspector. A hydraulic crane was used to remove the fallen tree and clear the road. Authorities have also alerted municipal officials to assess the damage and carry out necessary pruning in the area to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Sudhir worked as a caretaker at a DUSIB Rain Basera, and his elder daughter Shivani was set to be married in November. The family is now left to grapple with the sudden and tragic loss, as they prepare to lay Sudhir to rest and support Priya's recovery.
