As of August 19, 2025, the death toll from recent heavy rains in the Hyderabad region has risen to 9. Two more tragic incidents occurred in the past 48 hours, bringing the total number of lives lost.
In the first case, a 23-year-old man named G Raju was swept away by an overflowing stream in Kamareddy district while fishing. His body was later recovered by local fishermen. In a separate incident, a 45-year-old woman from Mulugu district, P Gouramma, drowned in the rising Tummala stream. Her body was retrieved after she went missing on Monday.
Rescue efforts were also underway, with NDRF teams saving 4 stranded fishermen from a swollen stream in Kaluvupalli village. Meanwhile, a mandal parishad development officer fell into a drainage pit while inspecting flood-affected areas in Kamalapur, but was pulled to safety by other officials.
The heavy rains have also led authorities to close the Tekulagudem bridge on NH-163 in Mulugu district due to high water levels in the Godavari River. Roads where water is flowing onto highways have also been blocked, and access restricted in areas where streams and lakes are overflowing.
