On August 5th, 2025, a devastating accident occurred in Nottinghamshire, resulting in the tragic death of a beloved community member. According to the coroner's report, the victim, David Chivers, suffered a catastrophic head injury that was "incompatible with life" after sustaining severe trauma to the brain.
The coroner, Sarah Wood, recorded a conclusion of accidental death, explaining that Mr. Chivers had placed himself in a vulnerable position, and when his companion, Ms. Valentine, pressed the accelerator, the vehicle reacted abruptly, leading to a sudden increase in speed. This left Mr. Chivers with little time to react, and he was knocked to the ground. In a panic, Ms. Valentine then attempted to move the car away, but since it was in reverse, the vehicle ultimately ran over Mr. Chivers, causing the fatal head injury.
The Bassetlaw Multicultural Association, where both Mr. Chivers and Ms. Valentine were members, described the victim as a "much-loved and valued member of our festival team" and a "kind, caring, and dedicated individual who would do anything to support the festival, and other people." His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him, and his contributions, spirit, and dedicated support will never be forgotten.
