On the early morning of August 3rd, a tragic incident occurred on an exit ramp of Interstate 94 in Ypsilanti Township, Washtenaw County. A 30-year-old Ypsilanti man was struck and killed by a vehicle while standing outside his truck.
According to the Michigan State Police, the victim had called his brother for assistance, as his truck appeared to have some damage. When the brother arrived at the scene, he found the victim lying in the roadway and a truck driving into the nearby woods.
Investigators determined that a 50-year-old Ypsilanti man, driving a 2022 Ford F-150, had fallen asleep at the wheel and crashed into the victim's 2006 Ford F-150, also striking the man. The impact caused the driver to veer off the road and into the woods. The 50-year-old was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Tragically, the 30-year-old Ypsilanti man succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Authorities believe that alcohol and drugs were contributing factors in the fatal crash.
