Veteran IPS Officer Takes Charge of Delhi's Tihar Jail Amid Wider Reshuffle
23 Aug
Summary
- Senior 1988-batch IPS officer Shashi Bhushan Kumar Singh appointed as new Delhi Prisons DG
- Replaces 1992-batch IPS officer Satish Golchha, who became new Delhi Police Commissioner
- Two other 1992-batch IPS officers also transferred to new roles

On August 23, 2025, the Delhi government's Home department announced a significant reshuffle in the city's top police and prisons leadership. Senior 1988-batch IPS officer Shashi Bhushan Kumar (SBK) Singh was appointed as the new Director General (Prisons), Delhi, replacing 1992-batch IPS officer Satish Golchha.
Golchha, in turn, was named the new Delhi Police Commissioner, a position he assumed just a day after an attack on the Delhi Chief Minister. However, officials stated that Golchha's appointment was not connected to the incident.
As part of the wider reshuffle, two other 1992-batch IPS officers - Nuzhat Hassan and Virender Singh Chahal - were also transferred out of the Delhi Police and given new roles. Hassan was appointed as Director General (Home Guards), while Chahal was made Director General (Civil Defence).
The transfers of Hassan and Chahal were seen as inevitable, as they were both senior to the newly appointed Police Commissioner Golchha. The changes have created vacancies at the special commissioner level, which may lead to further reshuffling in the Delhi Police's higher ranks.
