Summary
- Satish Golcha, 1992 IPS batch, appointed as Delhi Police Commissioner
- Replaces S B K Singh, who was acting commissioner since August 2025
- Golcha previously served as DGP of Arunachal Pradesh, known for handling 2020 Delhi riots

On August 21, 2025, the Indian government announced the appointment of Satish Golcha, a 1992 batch IPS officer, as the new Commissioner of Police for Delhi. Golcha, who was previously serving as the Director General of Prisons in the city, will replace S B K Singh, the Director General of Home Guards, who had been acting as the commissioner since August 2025.
The decision comes a day after the Delhi Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, was attacked by a man during a public hearing at her official residence. The accused, Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai Sakriya, an auto driver from Rajkot, Gujarat, was overpowered by the CM's security team and others present at the scene.
Golcha is a seasoned police officer who has previously served in various roles within the Delhi Police, including as a Deputy Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, and Special Commissioner. He gained prominence for his actions as the Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) during the riots in northeast Delhi in 2020. Prior to his current appointment, Golcha also served as the Director General of Police (DGP) in Arunachal Pradesh from February 2022 to June 2023.
The decision to appoint Golcha as the new Delhi Police Commissioner is seen as a move to strengthen the city's security and law enforcement in the wake of the recent attack on the Chief Minister. Golcha's extensive experience and his handling of the 2020 riots are expected to be valuable assets in his new role.
