Uttar Pradesh's Economic Crimes Unit Revamps with Stronger Tools and Public Access
4 Aug
Summary
- EOW revamped on CBI lines with better tech, faster probes, and direct public reporting
- New 112 helpline integrated for citizens to report financial crimes
- EOW officers trained by experts from CBI, ED, and other agencies

In a significant move, the Uttar Pradesh Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has been revamped on the lines of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). As of August 5th, 2025, the agency has been equipped with stronger technical tools, faster investigation processes, and direct public access to report financial crimes.
One of the key citizen-friendly reforms announced is the integration of the 112 emergency helpline with the EOW. This allows the common man to easily report cases of Ponzi scheme fraud, stamp fraud, plot/land fraud, multi-marketing fraud, trading fraud, Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) fraud, and job fraud. The aim is to make it more accessible for the public to seek help from the authorities.
To enhance the professional expertise of EOW officers, a day-long workshop was organized with domain experts, including specialists from the CBI, Enforcement Directorate, and other central agencies. The training focused on various forms of financial crimes, their investigation nuances, and emerging challenges.
In addition to the training and reforms, the EOW has also developed eight animated booklets to educate citizens on different types of financial crimes and how to stay protected. These resources are being made available in both soft and hard formats to raise public awareness.
The EOW is being transformed into a robust and trusted institution, both for professional enforcement and public outreach. With these new measures, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to strengthen the fight against economic offenses and provide better support to the citizens.
