On July 16, a tragic accident occurred in the upscale Palava area of Dombivli, resulting in the death of an 80-year-old pedestrian. According to the police report, a 16-year-old boy was riding a motorcycle with two friends, without a valid driving license, when he struck the elderly man who was crossing the road.
The incident happened when the minor boy, reportedly without his family's knowledge, took the motorcycle to a nearby hotel for a meal. Eyewitnesses stated that the boy was driving at a high speed when he hit the 80-year-old victim, identified as Chandrakant Shirpurkar. Local residents immediately rushed Shirpurkar to a nearby hospital, but his condition was critical, and he was later transferred to Sion Hospital in Mumbai, where he succumbed to his injuries the same day.
The Manpada police have registered a case against the minor boy following the victim's death. Initial investigations revealed that neither the boy nor his friends had a valid driving license, raising serious concerns about underage driving and parental negligence, especially in high-end residential areas.
This tragic incident has highlighted the need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and better supervision of minors, particularly in affluent neighborhoods, to prevent such devastating accidents from occurring in the future.
