Udupi Police Arrest Alleged Burglar, Recover Stolen Valuables

On July 5, 2025, the Udupi Town police registered cases regarding the theft of valuables from three houses in Kodankur New Colony of Puttur village. A police team led by Inspector Manjunath V Badiger has now arrested the suspect, Mohammad Asif Betageri, in connection with these burglaries.
According to Udupi SP Hariram Shankar, the accused confessed during the investigation to breaking into the three houses at midnight with his accomplices and stealing gold and silver jewelry, as well as cash. The stolen items, valued at around 8.5 lakh, were later sold in Bhatkal and Sirsi.
Asif also admitted to committing house thefts in the jurisdiction of Sagar town police station in Shivamogga district, Nyamati police station in Davanagere district, and being involved in four cases in Goa, along with his brother Arif and relatives Anees, Saleem, and Shoaib. However, Asif's brother Arif and the other accomplices are currently absconding, and the police are making efforts to apprehend them.

The investigation was conducted by the Udupi Town police team under the direction of the SP and guidance from ASP Sudhakar Naik and DSP DT Prabhu.
