14 Jul
Summary
- Distant relative of victim Kuldeep Singh plotted the murder
- Hired four killers to carry out the crime
- Victim was personal assistant to former Shiromani Akali Dal MP

Last month, the local police in Ludhiana, in collaboration with their counterparts in Jammu, arrested one of the killers of Kuldeep Singh, a personal assistant to former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP Jagdev Singh Talwandi. Investigations have revealed that a distant relative of the victim, Inderpal Singh of Doraha, plotted the murder.
According to the police, Inderpal hired the arrested accused, Gurcharan Singh, and three of his accomplices to carry out the crime. Kuldeep Singh was bludgeoned to death on June 27 near Dhandra Road as he was returning home from his farmhouse. The assailants, who came in a Maruti Swift car, first hit Kuldeep's car, forcing him to stop, and then attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, killing him on the spot.
The police have nominated Inderpal Singh in the case, but they are still investigating whether he was the sole mastermind behind the murder. The investigators believe the killers knew that Kuldeep owned a licensed pistol, suggesting insider knowledge. The police are now trying to track down the other absconding accused in the case.
