Racist Graffiti Defaces Maesteg Town, Suspect Arrested

On September 9th, 2025, a 19-year-old man was arrested by South Wales Police for a racially aggravated public order offense. The arrest came after the police were alerted to the discovery of swastika graffiti in various public spaces around Maesteg, Bridgend.
The offensive symbols were found spray-painted on a bus shelter, an open room at a bus station, and opposite a Chinese takeaway. Local councilor Abedalkarim Fadhel expressed his disappointment and frustration, stating that "small-minded individuals have once again decided to damage our town with graffiti."
Fadhel condemned the vandalism, saying that the acts "bring no benefit to anyone" and "damage our community spaces, waste public money, and tarnish the reputation of Maesteg - a town we are proud of." Inspector Gregory Methven of South Wales Police also condemned the "deeply offensive behavior" as "totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated."
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the arrested 19-year-old remains in police custody as of September 11th, 2025.
