NIA Probes Brutal Killing of Bajrang Dal Member in Karnataka

On August 2, 2025, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out extensive searches at 18 locations across various districts of Karnataka in connection with the targeted killing of Bajrang Dal member Suhas Shetty. Shetty was publicly assaulted and brutally murdered by accused Abdul Safwan and others using lethal weapons in the Bajpe area of Mangaluru city this past May.
The NIA, which took over the case from the local police in June 2025, searched the residences of 12 arrested individuals and various suspects in Mangaluru, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan. The searches resulted in the seizure of 11 mobile phones, 13 SIM cards, 8 memory cards, and other incriminating documents. The investigation into the conspiracy behind Shetty's killing is ongoing.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had directed the NIA to take over the Suhas Shetty murder probe in early June 2025, recognizing the gravity of the case and its potential to spread terror in society. The central government took cognizance of the FIR registered at the Bajpe police station, which detailed the attack on Shetty while he was traveling in a car with a few others. Shetty succumbed to his injuries in the hospital following the assault by Safwan and eight others.
