26 Aug
Summary
- Illegal migrant hid in couple's camper at Calais
- Couple noticed migrant trying to escape while driving on M25
- Police arrested 18-year-old migrant at South Mimms services

On August 18, 2025, a couple from Beeston, Nottinghamshire were returning home from a holiday when they encountered a startling situation. As they were driving on the M25 motorway, they noticed a hand emerging from the back of their camper van, and the person inside was trying to open the door and escape.
The couple, Paul and Kerry Turton, immediately called the police, who raced to intercept them at the South Mimms services at Junction 23 of the M25. In the footage, Kerry can be heard on the phone, saying, "He's opening the door... he's getting out. I'm being quite brave but I'll probably have a nervous breakdown in a minute."
It turned out that the 18-year-old man had forced his way into a locked storage compartment of the camper van at Calais, France, before the couple set off on their journey. Despite the Turtons' efforts to check and double-check the vehicle, the stowaway had managed to conceal himself.
The police surrounded the camper van and arrested the 18-year-old man, who was then handed over to immigration officials. The couple later received a fine from the Home Office for failing to "check that no clandestine entrant was concealed" in the motorhome, despite their efforts to report the incident and cooperate with the authorities.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in addressing the issue of illegal migration, as well as the impact it can have on unsuspecting travelers.
