On July 21st, 25-year-old Sunny Kumar was allegedly set on fire by his wife's lover at his in-laws' house in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat. Sunny had left his home for Haridwar to bring Ganga water during the Kanwar Yatra when his wife, Ankita, and her lover, Dr. Ayyub Ahmed, reportedly intercepted him.
Ankita then took Sunny Kumar to her parental home and allegedly poured petrol on him and set him on fire. A few locals rescued Kumar and took him to a hospital, but he suffered severe burns and was later referred to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital.
Sadly, Sunny Kumar succumbed to his injuries at the Delhi hospital on Sunday night. His father, Vedpal Kumar, had filed a police complaint on July 21st, leading to an FIR being registered against five people. However, no arrests have been made in the case so far.
On Monday, the agitated family members kept Kumar's body outside the Doghat police station and staged a protest, demanding the arrest of the accused. The Baraut CO, Vijay Kumar, assured the family that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators and convinced them to perform the last rites.
