Summary
- Indonesian woman apprehended at India-Nepal border
- Used fake Indian identity documents to travel to India
- Confessed to obtaining forged documents through a broker in Mumbai

In a recent incident on September 5, 2025, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel apprehended an Indonesian woman at the Panitanki border near West Bengal's Siliguri for attempting to enter India with forged documents. The woman, identified as Ni Kadek Sisiani from Bali, Indonesia, had initially claimed to be an Indian citizen named "Ninyoman Murni".
The SSB's Border Interaction Team (BIT) of the 41st Battalion arrested Sisiani inside the Indian territory near the old bridge, close to border post number 90, on Thursday evening. During interrogation, several fake documents were discovered, including an Indonesian identity card, Aadhaar card, and a PAN card.
Sisiani confessed to obtaining these forged documents through a local broker in Mumbai and had been living there for nearly a decade using these counterfeit identities. She had also used multiple fake personas to travel to Indonesia, Turkey, Nepal, and India.
Digital evidence was recovered, and a case has been registered against Sisiani under various sections of the Foreigners Act, Passport Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). After completing the necessary procedures and medical examination, she was handed over to the Kharibari police station for further legal action and was produced before the Siliguri court.
This incident highlights the growing concern over the use of forged documents and illegal movement of individuals across the Indo-Nepal border. Recently, six Myanmar nationals were also arrested for similar offenses, and a US citizen was detained for traveling with fake visa and passport documents.
