Hundreds of Ninja Swords Surrendered in Nationwide Amnesty
8 Aug
Summary
- 287 ninja swords and 56 other bladed weapons collected
- Amnesty scheme ran across England and Wales in July
- Ninja swords to be made illegal to own from August 1

Last month, in July 2025, police in Devon and Cornwall received a surprising number of ninja swords and other bladed weapons as part of a nationwide amnesty scheme. The Home Office-led project, which involved forces across England and Wales, saw 287 ninja swords and 56 additional bladed weapons surrendered to authorities.
The amnesty was held in the lead-up to ninja swords, defined as blades between 14-24 inches long with a straight edge, being made illegal to own from August 1, 2025. Det Insp Kevin Morley, who coordinated the scheme in Devon and Cornwall, expressed his delight at the public's response, saying he was "surprised and delighted" with the number of weapons handed in.
The successful amnesty is seen as a positive step in the ongoing efforts to tackle the availability of dangerous bladed weapons in the UK. With the new law coming into effect, the public surrender of these ninja swords will help remove potentially deadly items from circulation.
