Home Guard Killed in Motorcycle Accident During Liquor Bust

On August 14, 2025, a Home Guard posted with the Bihar excise department was killed in a tragic motorcycle accident while on duty. Abhisekh Sharma was chasing people carrying illegal liquor in Gopalganj when his motorcycle skidded and crashed around 4:30 AM near the State Engineering College in Vishwambhrpur.

Sharma's colleague sustained minor injuries in the incident. Although there were initial reports of Sharma being shot dead by the liquor mafia, the police have denied these claims. Doctors at the hospital found no bullet injuries on Sharma's body, and the authorities believe the accident was likely caused by a pothole that threw the duo off the motorcycle.

The people Sharma was chasing were also on a motorcycle, the police said. A probe is underway to determine if another vehicle was involved in the accident. Bihar has been under prohibition since 2016, but smuggling and illegal production of liquor continue to be a challenge for the authorities.

Just three days prior to this incident, the Enforcement Directorate had conducted searches in Muzaffarpur over a money laundering case linked to illegal liquor smuggling in the state. The crackdown on the illicit liquor trade has resulted in multiple arrests and raids across Bihar in recent months.
