- Police post in-charge and duty officer suspended, departmental inquiry ordered
- Incident occurred during a raid ordered by the high court

On September 9, 2025, a high court warrant officer, Mahipal Walia, arrived at the Basant Park police post under Shimlapuri police station in Ludhiana to conduct a raid late at night. The warrant officer was acting on the orders of the high court after the relatives of an accused approached the court.
However, the incident took an unexpected turn when the home guard jawan posted at the police post gate, Rachpal Singh, reportedly misbehaved and physically pushed the warrant officer. In response, Walia directly reported the incident to the high court.
The high court's intervention led to the suspension of the police post in-charge, ASI Kapil Sharma, and the officer on duty, ASI Ranjit Singh. Additionally, a departmental inquiry has been ordered against the Shimlapuri police station SHO, Jatinder Kumar.
The episode unfolded after the Basant Park police had earlier arrested Ramandeep Singh with 100 grams of drugs. Further interrogation led to the arrest of two more associates, Shubham Saini with 10 grams of drugs and Sajan Singh with 150 grams of drugs.
The high court has summoned senior officials, including the assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Satinder Singh Virk, to explain the situation. A case has been registered against the home guard jawan Rachpal Singh under charges of obstructing government duty and misbehavior.
