Fugitive Arrested After 21-Year Manhunt

In a significant development, the police have arrested an accused who had been absconding for nearly 21 years. The accused, Farooq, a resident of Kasaragod, was taken into custody on Monday in Ramanagara district, where he was currently residing.
Farooq was wanted in connection with a complaint filed on December 25, 2004, by Shoukat Ali. A case was registered at Shankaranarayana police station under Section 395 (dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code. The case was later transferred to Amasebail police station, where it was marked as a long-pending matter.
Since 2004, Farooq had been evading the law and failing to appear before the court. A warrant was issued against him, and a special team was formed under the guidance of senior police officials to trace the absconding accused.
After gathering reliable intelligence through various sources, the team, led by Ashok Kumar, PSI of Amasebail police station, and Chandra AK, PSI, arrested Farooq at Magadi in Ramanagara district. The accused was then produced before the court, which has remanded him to judicial custody.
