Fake Cop Arrested for Toll Evasion and Extortion in Varanasi

According to the report, on the night of August 2nd, 2025, Ramnagar police in Varanasi arrested a man who was impersonating a police officer. During a routine night patrol, officers noticed a bearded youth dressed in a police uniform near the Radha Kishori Girls School. Suspecting his activities, they brought him to the police station, where he was identified as Siddharth Singh, a resident of the Dhaphi area.
Upon investigation, the police recovered two fake police identity cards, fake appointment letters, and other incriminating documents from Singh. They also seized a motorcycle with a fake registration number that he had been using. During interrogation, Singh confessed that he had been wearing the police uniform to avoid paying toll taxes while traveling and to extort money from unsuspecting citizens at night by intimidating them.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police, Pragya Pathak, stated that the Ramnagar police had acted swiftly to apprehend the imposter and prevent him from further exploiting the public. The case has been registered, and Singh is currently in police custody, facing charges for his fraudulent activities.
