On the night of August 16, 2025, a 75-year-old man named Shivshankar Mishra was brutally attacked by his intoxicated neighbor, Brijendra Singh alias Titu, in the Karbigwan Narwal area of Kanpur. According to the victim's family, Shivshankar was sleeping on the veranda of his home when Brijendra, in a drunken state, approached him and began beating him with a bamboo stick.
The assault was so severe that the stick broke, and Shivshankar was left covered in blood on the ground. Neighbors immediately informed the police, and the critically injured man was rushed to the CHC Sarsaul hospital before being transferred to the Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital in Kanpur.
On Monday morning, August 18th, the doctors at LLR Hospital declared Shivshankar stable and discharged him. However, the police then summoned him to the station for further investigation. While at the police station, Shivshankar's condition suddenly deteriorated, and he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The police have since upgraded the case from assault to murder, and two teams are actively searching for the accused Brijendra Singh. ACP Abhishek Pandey stated that the incident appears to have occurred due to a property dispute between the two neighbors, further exacerbated by Brijendra's intoxicated state.
