In a shocking turn of events, former Premier League referee David Coote has found himself at the center of a disturbing scandal. According to the latest reports, Coote has pleaded not guilty to a charge of making an indecent image of a child.
The 43-year-old former match official was charged on August 12, 2025, following an investigation by Nottinghamshire Police. He has been on conditional bail since then, and the case is now set to be heard at Nottingham Crown Court on October 9, 2025.
This is not the first time Coote has faced controversy. In November 2022, he was suspended by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) after a video emerged on social media of him calling former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp "f***ing arrogant" and a "German c***". Just a few days later, The Sun published a separate video that allegedly showed Coote sniffing white powder through a rolled-up American bank note.

Coote's contract with the PGMOL was terminated on December 9, 2022, and in February 2023, he was banned from officiating in UEFA competitions for 16 months for "violating the basic rules of decent conduct" and "bringing the sport of football, and UEFA in particular, into disrepute". Additionally, in August 2023, he was given an eight-week suspension by the Football Association following his comments about Klopp.
Now, with the latest charges of making an indecent image of a child, Coote's once-promising career in refereeing appears to have come to a devastating end. The outcome of the upcoming trial will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications for both Coote and the world of football.
