On July 5, 2024, a Delhi woman named Soniya allegedly offered her sister's brother-in-law, Vijay, ₹50,000 to kill her husband, Pritam Prakash. That night, while Soniya was sleeping on the terrace, Vijay allegedly killed Pritam and disposed of his body in a drain near Agwanpur, Haryana.
Pritam, a 42-year-old known criminal with over 10 cases against him, including under the Arms Act and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, had been declared a proclaimed offender by the court. Soniya was in an ongoing relationship with her 28-year-old boyfriend, Rohit, which was the motive behind the murder.
On July 20, 2024, Soniya filed a missing person complaint for her husband, claiming he had gone out and never returned. However, investigators grew suspicious when they noticed no financial or digital activity from Pritam for weeks. Police later tracked a mobile number linked to Pritam that had become active again after nearly a year, leading them to Rohit in Sonipat.
During questioning, Rohit confessed to being in a relationship with Soniya and said they had planned the murder together. He also admitted that Soniya had paid Vijay to carry out the killing. Soniya later sold Pritam's auto-rickshaw for ₹4.5 lakh and gave his mobile phone to Rohit.
Police are still searching for Vijay, the third accused who remains absconding. The case highlights the tragic consequences of a toxic relationship and the victim's criminal past.
