On August 1, 2025, the additional sessions judge court in Kanpur Nagar issued a non-bailable warrant against a police inspector for non-compliance with a court order. The court has ordered the arrest of the inspector, Ratnesh Kumar Yadav, and his production before the court on the next date.
The court's action comes in the case of the gang rape and murder of a woman. Yadav, who was the investigating officer, had been regularly summoned by the court to provide evidence, but he had evaded the notices. The high court had earlier directed the submission of the investigation officer's evidence within two weeks and a report to the high court by August 18.
Frustrated by the inspector's non-cooperation, the court has now taken the step of issuing a non-bailable warrant. The judge has also directed the police officer in-charge of the cyber cell in Lucknow to either arrest Yadav or produce him in court by August 6.
The case dates back to December 2021, when the victim, a resident of Kanpur's Rail Bazar area, went missing and was later found dead near the COD bridge. The police had registered a case against three suspects, but the investigation has been hampered by the lack of cooperation from the inspector in charge.
