Summary
- New check post opened at Gopalapuram, a major interstate road link
- Checkpoint made of shipping container, staffed by 2 police per shift
- Crucial to counter crimes like smuggling of ration rice and illegal lottery tickets

On September 8, 2025, the Coimbatore District (Rural) Police have opened a new check post at Gopalapuram, one of the major interstate road links between Tamil Nadu and Kerala in the district. District Superintendent of Police K. Karthikeyan inaugurated the new checkpoint in the presence of other senior police officials.
The previous check post at Gopalapuram was functioning in a rented building, but the new one is made of a shipping container. Two police personnel will be on duty at the check post on two shifts. Gopalapuram is one of the 14 inter-State check posts in Coimbatore district, strategically positioned on the Palakkad-Pollachi Road.
The new check post is expected to play a crucial role in countering various crimes, primarily the smuggling of ration rice from Tamil Nadu to Kerala and the illegal inflow of Kerala lottery tickets to Tamil Nadu. The Coimbatore District Police have also recently revamped their highway patrol on National Highway 544 to combat highway robberies.
