Summary
- ED summons actor Ankush Hazra in illegal betting app case
- Several Bollywood and South Indian stars under ED scanner
- Betting apps used social media, celebrities to promote illegal activities

In a significant development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Bollywood actor Ankush Hazra to appear before the agency on September 16th, 2025. This comes as part of the ED's ongoing investigation into the case of illegal betting applications.
The ED's Karnataka office has been probing this case since last year, and several high-profile personalities from the entertainment industry, including Bollywood and South Indian film stars, are under the agency's scrutiny. The betting application companies were reportedly using social media platforms and popular faces like actors and cricketers to promote their apps and websites, which were engaged in unlawful activities.
Last June, the ED had questioned a number of stars, including Rana Duggubati and Vijay Deverakonda, in connection with this case. The agency is now expanding its investigation, with the latest summons being sent to actor Ankush Hazra. While Hazra could not be reached for comment, ED sources have confirmed that he has been asked to appear before the agency next month.
The crackdown on these illegal betting apps and the involvement of celebrities in promoting them is seen as a significant step by the authorities to curb the growing menace of online gambling and its associated criminal activities.
