High Court Halts FIR Against Bollywood Stars in Hyundai Controversy
11 Sep
Summary
- Rajasthan High Court grants relief to SRK and Deepika
- Actors accused of misleading buyers over 'defective' Hyundai car
- Complainant claims mechanical issues after 67,000 km of driving

On September 10, 2025, the Rajasthan High Court granted temporary relief to Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, halting a fraud complaint against them in Bharatpur. The actors were accused of deceiving buyers by promoting a 'defective' Hyundai Alcazar car while serving as brand ambassadors for the automaker.
The complaint was filed by a buyer who claimed to have driven the vehicle around 67,000 km over three years and experienced several mechanical issues and malfunctions. The FIR was lodged under sections of the Indian Penal Code, including cheating and criminal conspiracy.
However, the High Court found the FIR lacked a factual foundation and ordered a halt to further inquiry. The court has now permitted the complainant and authorized representatives of Hyundai Motor India Ltd. and its dealership to seek mediation as a means of resolution. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for September 25.
Arguing on behalf of the actors, senior counsel Kapil Sibal and Madhav Mitra contended that Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone were not directly involved in the production or quality assurance of the vehicle, and their duties were limited to endorsement and promotion. The attorneys argued that it was capricious to name the actors under criminal law when they had no direct connection to the alleged defect.
