An independent investigator, Alex Baber, has presented new evidence suggesting a connection between the Zodiac Killer and the 1947 Black Dahlia murder. Baber claims to have deciphered a Zodiac cipher, revealing the name 'Marvin Merrill,' an alias for Marvin Margolis. Margolis was previously a person of interest in the murder and dismemberment of Elizabeth Short. This finding was reportedly achieved using artificial intelligence and cryptographic analysis.
Baber's research indicates that Margolis may have been the Zodiac Killer's first victim. The investigator presented his findings to Margolis's surviving son, who reportedly reacted with shock and provided handwriting samples. These samples, along with linguistic analysis, allegedly show similarities between Margolis and the Zodiac Killer's writings. Police records from 1951 listed Margolis as one of 22 persons of interest in Short's murder.
Further analysis revealed that the key to the cipher was the victim's first name, Elizabeth. Additionally, a sketch drawn by Margolis, purportedly showing additional detail when viewed in person, reportedly contains hidden impressions coinciding with Elizabeth Short's injuries and the word 'Zodiac.' Experts, including former NSA codebreakers, have reviewed Baber's findings, with some suggesting the theory "has legs."
