Online Romance Turns Violent: YouTuber Gets 18 Months

A South Korean YouTuber received an 18-month prison sentence for assaulting a male content creator in September 2025. Prosecutors stated she stabbed him multiple times in the abdomen after he rejected her advances, with the injuries being serious but not life-threatening.

The case garnered significant online attention due to the involvement of content creators and highlighted issues surrounding relationships formed on social media. Court records indicated the woman believed they were romantically involved, a view not shared by the man, leading to the violent confrontation.

An appeals court reduced her initial sentence of two and a half years. Judges considered her confession, the impulsive nature of the act, and financial compensation to the victim. Despite the victim's opposition to a lesser sentence and the woman's prior similar offense, the court deemed the reduced sentence justified.
