Jacob Agnew, a 30-year-old former youth worker from Hull, has been sentenced to five and a half years imprisonment. His conviction followed a 13-day trial at Hull Crown Court, where he was found guilty of six charges, including sexual activity with a child and sexual assault. He had previously admitted to four additional charges of sexual activity with a child and one count of fraud.
The offenses, which spanned from 2012 to 2022, involved seven victims aged between 14 and 17. Prosecutors highlighted Agnew's abuse of trust against vulnerable young people. One victim shared the profound impact, experiencing panic attacks and emotional distress from the betrayal of trust.
The fraud charge stemmed from Agnew's attempt to secure a secondary school position while suspended. He created a fake email address for a colleague and wrote a self-serving reference. The judge noted Agnew's sexual interest in younger females and the devastating effect his actions had on the victims.
