Three young men received court sentences for a "barbaric attack" on two off-duty police officers in Sydney's inner west. The incident occurred on January 22, 2025, when Danai Deneiderhavsein, Finley Goodwin, and Koby Weaver assaulted officers Jack Steen and Lachlan Gray.
Deneiderhavsein initiated the physical confrontation, followed by Goodwin and Weaver. During the brawl, Koby Weaver stomped on Officer Steen's head, causing significant injuries. Officer Steen sustained a bleed on the brain and multiple facial fractures.
Lawyers argued for community orders, citing the men's youth and contrition. However, the prosecutor highlighted the attack's unprovoked and brutal nature. Judge Greg Grogin emphasized the pack mentality and the footage's graphic depiction of the assault.
Deneiderhavsein received an 18-month community corrections order and a 12-month jail term. Goodwin received similar sentences. Weaver was jailed for two years for recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm, with the judge describing his actions as "cowardly" and "brutal."
