A California man, Jack Matthew Propeck, is facing federal charges for allegedly base jumping off a cliff at Yosemite National Park. The incident, which occurred on October 8, 2025, was captured on a video Propeck uploaded to his Instagram account. The footage showed him free-falling from Glacier Point before deploying a parachute.
Propeck was charged with delivering or retrieving a person or object by parachute. He initially claimed to have a permit, but Yosemite does not issue such permits for base jumping. Authorities were alerted to the video on October 10, 2025.
Despite evidence from license plate readers and a park officer's recognition of the jump site, Propeck initially denied his involvement, suggesting AI was used to alter the video. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 7, 2026, after requesting a continuance.
